Source: thesadnessofpencils- not everyone can send money due to not having any, someone else controlling their bank account, or the sheer red tape of donations or even not having enough spoons to walk down to the bank and transfer money. some people with disabilities can’t use phones either so phone donations are sometimes out of the question.
- not everyone’s God is the Abrahamaic God, so laughing at the “illogic” of praying is ridiculous. sometimes prayer is the only thing someone can manage, that does not lessen their capacity for action. assuming that people are stopping ~all action~ to pray, why, you think they can’t pray to God AND act by helping in shelters or something?
- saying people only get hit by natural disasters because they don’t believe in the Abrahamaic God is preposterous and by extension trying to proselytise on that basis is not only hurtful to the people affected, it’s also against the bits of your holy book that remind you about humanitarian needs.
- using a natural disaster that is still affecting people as a backdrop for a story/fanfic/whatever… SO MUCH NO.
- citing a country’s history as reasons why you should not be compassionate makes you… well you guessed it, a shitty excuse for a human being. because no matter how you look at that… it’s just fucking racist.
- citing a country’s present actions [e.g. whaling] is racist too, just fyi.
because if your ends were that noble, you wouldn’t need to co-opt human suffering to achieve them.
Love,
Weekday Blues.
Thursday is still out of spoons, so this is me, Maggie, standing in.
Dear followers on #Microresistance:
The amazing kairia has several essential posts on the #Japan earthquake and tsunami. Please check out her initial information post as well as updated (incomplete) charity list.
Please also remember that a 5.8-Richter earthquake hit #Yunnan in China on 10 March. Infrastructure has been severely damaged, with as many as 138,000 people displaced and up to 300,000 people affected. A charity list is available here.
Let’s try to give what we can, and signal boost if our own resources are low. Don’t reblog information without a source; only donate to credible and reputable organisations; and refrain from reposting triggering content like photographs and videos of the destruction unless it is necessary and warned for.
Regards. —Wednesday.

Attention Queer Community of Tumblr, I need your help with an art project:
So as some of you may know, I sent out a note a few months ago collecting images of women who like other women. I have decided to expand that particular project to include the entirety of the queer community. If you helped out on the last project, I will use those images again, or if you’d rather submit a different photo, let me know.
If you all would be so kind as to submit a headshot of yourselves, it would be greatly appreciated. Just submit them as is, don’t photoshop them or alter them and any camera will suffice. Names will not be used. This is applicable to anyone who identifies as queer. Queer being the umbrella term; LGBTQIA [etc]. With that image, I would like you all to type a sentence about yourselves [your ethnicity, how you identify, and whatever else you’d like to include.] The information will be gathered as an aside to the project.
Reblog to spread the word please; this particular piece will be going into my senior show in May (which is the equivalent to a thesis). So I will need all photos [preferably] before April.
If you would rather send them to my email address: angarciamv@gmail.com
Thank you all, I will definitely be posting pictures when it’s all said and done. I hope to get at least one hundred images; if I exceed this number— it would be amazing. Please help and spread the word. Thanks everyone. <3

A submission we received:
I know that this blog is dedicated to microaggressions, but I wanted to suggest the possibility of starting a blog of…I don’t know if there’s a word…Micro-supports? You know, the little things that people do, sometimes, but not always, without…
INSTA-FOLLOW. INSTA-REBLOG.
I seriously hope this doesn’t just become about giving cookies to people for being decent human beings.
We hope not too!

I love this occupation for the bathrooms.
From fuckyeahgenderstudies:
divinityphotography asked: The theatre building at my university is currently being occupied to stand up against what’s happening in Wisconsin. However, when you out a group of “radical” students together, other things happen as well.Originally, there were signs that said “Fuck Gendered Bathrooms” over the Male and Female signs on the bathroom doors. We had decided that we were mature enough not to need them and that we didn’t need to enforce the gender binary.
Now, we have these fancy and pretty signs up: http://divinityphotography.tumblr.com/post/3673504448/i-love-this-occupation-for-the-bathrooms
Description: A wooden door with a white cardboard sign posted on it. The sign reads GENDER NEUTRAL in red marker with black shadow, and is decorated with two red stars.

A gentle reminder that submissions are ongoing and always open for Microresistance! We’re a community project, and we’re committed to telling the diverse stories of marginalised people, activists, and allies, so we’re always welcome to what you have to tell.
You can submit with your user name, you can submit anon. Posts of any sort would be simply splendid, though don’t forget transcripts for audio and captions for pictures, if you can (and if you can’t, send it to us anyway and we’ll do that). Nothing’s too short, and nothing’s tl;dr. All we want are accounts of empowering acts of resistance by our fellow marginalised peeps and allies.
The list has been updated to include memes for booksellers, linguists, AP students, museum studies majors, art historians, business majors, Shakespeare-obsessers, and design majors. I’m updating it as I learn of other memes; please check it before you ask, and if you know of another, let us know!
And another reminder: please, please use the description text provided on the submissions page. We want everyone to be able to read the blog!
A little after English Armadillo made this post, the mods also posted the following ask:
Anonymous asked: Ok are the descriptions really necessary? They’re kind of useless and distracting, tbh.
Yes, they are, because some of our followers cannot read the blog without them. If they distract you so much, feel free to unfollow.
I know one’s not to give cookies for being a Decent Human Being, and I am indeed irked that the Armadillo didn’t put captions sooner, but that was one heck of a pretty cool reply to make.

Original submission:
This New York Times chronicles a transwoman’s transition at work and it appears that her coworkers reacted with near-universal support. An excerpt:
Afterward, almost everyone wished me the best and shook my hand. I was overwhelmed. One of my former supervisors said we had always been friends and would continue to be friends. A woman said she almost cried when she heard how tortured I’d felt for so many years.
I am posting this if only to say this is precisely the sort of thing we don’t want. Marginalised people aren’t for privileged people to feel better about themselves, we aren’t inspirational or wondrous or all that jazz. This tumblog is not We Hand Out Cookies To You for Being Decent Human Beings, it’s microresistance.
